The performance will weave together the timeless poetry and drama of Shakespeare
with the rich harmonies and evocative melodies of choral music, creating an immersive
experience that transcends the boundaries of time and language. Each piece has been
carefully selected to showcase the breadth of human emotion and the enduring
relevance of Shakespeare’s words.
The audience will hear the English Baroque composers Henry Purcell and Thomas
Morley, the classical motet Who is Sylvia! by Henry Bishop rather similar to Rossini’s
opera finales and some lovely motets by Vaughan Williams and Havergal Brian,
culminating in Stephen Harrap’s arrangement of Round about the cauldron go from the
witches’ scene in Macbeth interspersed by the excellent acting of the BUSC actresses.
Join us for an unforgettable evening where literature and music meet, offering a fresh
perspective on the genius of William Shakespeare. Whether you are a long-time admirer
of the Bard or new to his work, this unique blend of theatre and choral music will leave
you truly inspired by the evening.
